Nestled in the breathtaking beauty of the Peak District, the Bull I' Th' Thorn campsite is your ideal destination for a memorable family-friendly camping experience. Situated amidst stunning landscapes and surrounded by nature's wonders, our campsite offers a range of amenities and activities that will delight both young and old alike.
Our campsite is a great base to explore the many attractions the Peak District has to offer, the beautiful spa town of Buxton is only a 10 minute drive away while the historic market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne are also within easy reach. The site is located close to the Tissington and High Peak Trails, perfect for cyclists and walkers of all abilities.
No need to spend hours pitching up your tent - we have done the hard work for you. Enjoy our more relaxing camping option, with lighter luggage, less faff and no panicking when you fgorget the tent pegs!
Our empty bell tents have space for up to 4 people (and up to 2 furry friends), and with exclusive use of a fire pit and picnic bench, you can make the most of the long summer evenings in style. Available April-September.
Please note during our low season (November-March) there will only be limited pitches and facilities available. Facilities will be located at the front of the pub and consist of 2 toilet and shower cubicles, drinking water tap and small sink for plate washing.
Also as we only have grass pitches, when we have bad weather we may asked you to stay on our gravel track or hardstanding next to our barn to avoid issues getting on/off the pitches.

Our traditional pub: A roaring fire awaits you during the winter months, it's a great spot to unwind with a refreshing drink. Join us for a perfectly poured pint of local ale or a glass of your favourite wine, our friendly staff will make you feel right at home. Our fabulous beer garden means you can soak up the Peak District sunshine and enjoy the beautiful landscape in the summer months.
Our top suggestions of things to see and do while staying with us
Walk or Cycle the High Peak and Tissington Trails: Just a short walk across the fields from the campsite is the High Peak Trail, this former railway line, runs for 17 miles from Dowlow, near Buxton to the High Peak Junction at Cromford and is perfect for walkers and cyclists of all abilities as it relatively flat and traffic free. If you head towards Parsley Hay (here the trail splits and you can also join the Tissington Trail, which goes all the way to Ashbourne) you will discover Parsley Hay Cycle Hire. Here you can hire a range of bikes including adult bikes, children's bikes and even tandems!
Sample some Italian inspired gelato: Just a 2 minute drive from the campsite, Tagg Lane Dairy offers a unique dairy experience centered around their signature Jersey milk and inspired gelato. This family-run farm is home to a cherished herd of Jersey cows, known for their rich and creamy milk. Made using the farm's fresh Jersey milk, the gelato at Tagg Lane Dairy boasts a velvety texture and indulgent flavours that will delight your taste buds. From classic favourites like chocolate and vanilla to unique creations like salted caramel or raspberry ripple, each scoop of their inspired gelato is a true delight.
Visit Poole's Cavern and Buxton Country Park: Venture into the underground wonderland of Poole's Cavern, an impressive limestone cave system just outside Buxton. Take a guided tour through the cavern's vast chambers, adorned with striking stalactites and stalagmites. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the adjacent Buxton Country Park, with its woodlands and serene walking trails.
Visit Chatsworth House: Just a short drive from the campsite, Chatsworth House is a magnificent stately home with stunning gardens. Explore the opulent interiors, marvel at the extensive art collection, and take a leisurely stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Just a field away lies The Royal Oak, a 10 minute walk or 15 minute drive away, our sister venue, a popular country pub with great food, array of drinks and traditional cosy interior. Their reputation speaks for itself and we would definitely recommend booking ahead especially in school holiday times.
The varied menu of classic pub food and some more adventurous dishes changes seasonally and uses all the best local produce, we would definitey recommend a visit!
